What it does

The Hexorcist turns the hard-coded colours in your file into a variable system you keep: named colour variables with Light and Dark modes, connected to every layer.

It isn’t a recoloured copy of your screens. The variables stay in your file after the plugin closes, and any frame can switch between Light and Dark in Figma’s right-hand panel.

How it works

  1. Scan a frame, a page or the whole file. It finds every fill, stroke, text colour, gradient and shadow, and changes nothing.
  2. Review the plan. Near-identical colours merge. Every colour gets a role name, such as text/secondary, and the reason it was chosen. Dark values are suggested for you.
  3. Fix contrast. Aim for WCAG AA or AAA. Each text and icon pair shows which levels it passes in Light and Dark. One click moves a failing colour to the closest one that passes.
  4. Build. It creates base colours and colour roles with Light and Dark modes, then connects every layer.
  5. Flip any scanned frame to Dark to see it, then scan again to check nothing was missed.

See it in action

A 27-second demo with no sound. The Hexorcist scans a frame, suggests a role for every colour, builds Light and Dark variables, and the frame flips to Dark.

What you need

  • Figma desktop app or browser.
  • Dark mode needs a Figma plan with variable modes (Professional or above). On the free Starter plan you get Light only.

Questions

Does it use AI?
No. It follows rules, and every suggestion comes with the reason it was made.
Will it change my file without asking?
No. It scans first and changes nothing until you approve the plan. One Undo reverses the whole build.
I already have a design system. Will it mess with it?
Colours that match your variables link to them once you approve. New variables go into your own collections, named your way. Nothing of yours is renamed or changed.
Does anything leave my file?
No. The plugin has no network access.
